1. Planning the Structure

Whether linear or non-linear – structure is key. To structure nonlinearly means to find a visual structure of the topic fields. That is why this is the first important question to be clarified. So:

How should the topic be structured? 

Is it rather a networked concept map or a mind map?

How is the structure arranged hierarchically?

 

   

 

In order to clarify the structural questions, it is very helpful to be able to answer the following questions:

What exactly is the core of the topic? 

Which questions should be answered? 

How many aspects are relevant to the topic?

What is the message of the map? 

Who is addressed by the map?

How detailed should the structure be?

 

What is the best way to proceed?

Whether on paper, in a sketch program or directly in the CMS - how you plan the structure in advance is up to you. The clearer the idea of the map, the faster it can be implemented directly in the CMS. It is much easier to draw the map structure in the Canvas Editor if you already have an approximate idea of the scope and size of the map. 

 

With the result of the structuring it can be clarified in a next step which hierarchy levels the individual aspects have, i.e. what are the main points, which sub points and how the structure can be clustered sensibly on several layers.
